Check Out Our Participant Accomplishments:
- Overall the competition was great. It is hard to motivate yourself sometimes and when you have a "wall of shame" so to speak, taunting you with the other teams progress it helps you push yourself. Watching my points for the week and knowing that someone else is going to put up more than me pushed my competitive side and made me want to do better. I found myself going to the gym at odd hours (4 a.m. or 11 p.m.) knowing I needed to get a workout in and my schedule wouldn't allow it. Honestly, it is the first time in a long time I was going to the gym 7 days a week and not just to slam in 30 minutes, to make sure I was there as long as I needed to be to get everything done. Knowing that it was only 10 weeks kept me going when the initial novelty wore off at about week 5. I could remind myself that I only had to keep it up for 5 more weeks. I ended up with great results at the end and I have maintained them since the competition. It was great to push myself for the competition and now enjoy the rewards of my hard work. It has also made a big change to my gym habits. The major accomplishment of the challenge was giving up drinking. It is a big part of my social life and seems to be everywhere. Going out and not drinking was completely okay, and I actually enjoyed watching everyone make a fool out of themselves. All of my friends thought I had lost my mind, but they also noticed that I lost a good portion of my butt to go along with it.

Accomplishments: Lost 5% bodyfat
- It was about late February that I received an e-mail from Erik Peacock about the Jumpstart Challenge. This just happened to be a time in my life when I was looking to make some changes, both personally and professionally. This challenge was just what I needed. I was already doing Weight Watchers, which is a wonderful nutritional program. I was exercising a little. Erik gave me the push I needed to kick up my workouts to the next level. I set a goal of swimming 30 miles in ten weeks. As the weeks progressed, I added flexibility and weight training to my regimen. I was feeling so inspired that I signed up for a triathlon, which meant adding biking and running. I trained for and completed the triathlon! I tried things I never would have otherwise tried – like climbing and mountain biking. Knowing that my jumpstart partner was counting on me to do my part kept me accountable. Watching the weight come off and the body fat percentage go down kept me motivated. Now, I swim, bike and walk on a regular basis and feel great. Previously, I was walking 2 miles maybe 2 to 3 times a week. Now, I swim about 2 miles a week, bike about 30 miles a week, and walk about 15 miles a week. I have a lot more energy, and people compliment me all the time on my new appearance. I have more weight to lose, but I don’t really focus on that. I feel that I am living a healthy lifestyle that I intend to continue forever. I have motivated others to get moving, too. I feel great!

Mary Rud, Lakeville, Minnesota
Accomplishments:
Lost 5 pounds and 6% body fat
- The two main things I took away from the challenge were-I do have time to workout everyday and how important stretching is. During the challenge I increased my workout days from 4-5 to each day and have maintained that since the end of the ten weeks!
Kelli Carter, New Prague, Minnesota
Accomplishments:
Lost 10 pounds and 4% body fat. Completed 2 10ks and did first 5k under 30 minutes a new personal best! Added yoga to her regimen and is currently training for her first marathon.
- After falling off the good eating habit wagon in the winter, I needed something to help get back on track FAST! Jumpstart did just that, within the first four weeks I hit my goal weight and at the end of the ten weeks, I was nearly the most lean that I had ever been!
Sandy Larson, Jordan, Minnesota
Accomplishments:
Lost 6 pounds and 4.5% body fat Overcame fear of heights by topping the rock wall twice during the Jumpstart Climbing Challenge.
- Although I am already motivated to work out and eat right, the challenge gave me the competition aspect which I really enjoy. I worked as hard as I could so that my team could win the contest and even though we didn't win, I know that I did everything that I could and the real win was the results! In addition to the measurements, I tried climbing a rock wall, took my bike down from the garage ceiling after 7 years, walked a 5k and challenged myself to Erik’s bootcamp. I feel like I accomplished a lot, some things were new, some things were not new, but needed to be revisited. I am happy with my progress and continue to challenge myself in new and exciting ways Cheryl
Lewis, Burnsville, Minnesota (Voted Rockstar Performer)
Accomplishments:
Lost 26 pounds, 5.3% body fat and 21.5 inches total
- The jumpstart challenge not only helped me accomplish my weight and measurement goals, it gave me motivation and incentive to try new ways to work out versus doing the everyday
grind and repetitiveness of going to the gym. It also helped me eat clean on a more consistent basis by finding LOTS of foods that,
with the right combinations, were surprisingly delicious....and healthy!!
Let’s just say running was not my favorite....I would rather clean my bathroom...twice...in one day.
Despite my despise for running, I entered 3 races with my partner and finished them all. My most
memorable accomplishment during the challenge was finishing a 10k without stopping. Knowing I am able
to run that far with continued training doesn't make it so bad anymore.
In fact, I now enjoy running outside for my cardio workouts! Besides running, I also participated in a triathlon and went mountain biking. Without the challenge, I would
not have taken the initiative to participate in these events. Being fit takes work but it can also be fun and
rewarding when you accomplish something you thought not possible. Thank you Puravida Fitness.

Conquered Lebanon Hills expert loop on first time mountain biking
- Before the challenge I had fallen into a rut. I thought I was working hard, but I was really stuck at the same place. The challenge really helped me get back on track and to push through to the next level. Having a partner helped keep me motivated. When I became unmotivated my partner would push me to do better. The competition aspect of the challenge also helped to stay motivated.
During the challenge I pushed through a plateau and lost some more weight. I also participated in my first mini triathlon. But the main thing that I accomplished was showing myself that I am capable of more than I thought

Summit - Climbing to a Higher Level
Summit is a program to encourage and reward you for making wise decisions for your health and life. The program is about what you need and is individualized for you. It is about making healthier choices as you reach your health and fitness goals. The 10 week program will give you accountability, coaching, and motivation to create habits that will help you climb to a higher level in your life. We can help you with the roadblocks and hurdles that are tripping you up from making the changes you want to make.
Here is how the program works.
Each individual works on accomplishing their own personal goals Mt McKinley is the first mountain to climb
Mt McKinley is 20,320 ft. - the highest mountain in North America
There will be 3 levels:
- Crest (7,000 ft)
- Summit (14,000 ft)
- Pinnacle (20,320 ft)
Each person will set their own climb and have 1-1 accountability with their personal trainer or Beth Dean the program coordinator
Tracking will be done in feet & shared privately with trainer.
Example - a weekly food journal = 100 feet/day or 700/wk
Length of the program will be 10 weeks. May expand to add additional mountains (ie K2, Everest) over time for more challenges.
The program will coincide with the Jumpstart program and all participants will have total access to Jumpstart Challenges and events.
Jumpstart vs. Summit
For those not who are not competitive and would prefer to challenge themselves as an individual this for you. It’s about helping each person accomplish their personal goals and climbing their mountain foot by foot. Cost of $75 will include t-shirt, all access to seminars/challenges, and a donation to the Community Action Council food shelf. |
