"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7

This passage fuels me whenever I feel like quitting.

Being a type A fitness guy I set some aggressive fitness goals to end 2020 strong.

ON TRACK TO FINISH STRONG!

I had good momentum and was planning to finish the race strong, but I tested positive for COVID and our governor shut down all gyms.

This set me back.

The voice in my head starting talking...

You know that voice. The one that tells you to quit and gives several viable reasons to back it up.

Reasons like....

"You're strong and fit enough so why worry about it?" (Complacency)

"You might get hurt." (Fear based)

"You are too old to be lifting anyway (Self limiting)

And on and on...

Thank God I grasped hold of my faith and didn't let the voice prevail because as I write this I am winning.

KEEP RUNNING THE RACE!

I kept running the race, even when the voice was chattering.  I have managed to hit one of these big strength goals and am in striking distance to hit the other.

I didn't give up.  Because to me, it's more than just lifting some heavy weights- it is about having integrity to myself, building my character and establishing trust.  It's about "finishing the race" no matter what.

I've learned that once you start quitting it becomes easier to quit.

Too often we leave things unfinished and give up too easily.  We neglect the need for consistency and reliability within ourselves - which in turn leads to a lack of trust in other relationships as well.

It's true - any worthy goal comes with obstacles and setbacks.  But by overcoming the obstacles, the finish becomes that much sweeter.

So, let me ask you - what unfinished business do you have for 2020?

  • The last 10 pounds you can't lose?
  • That 300 pound deadlift?
  • Running a 5K?

Whatever it is, I want to help you finish the race.  It's not too late to get started.
