Think On Excellent And Praiseworthy Things

What have you been thinking on lately?

Conspiracy theories?

Doomsday scenarios?

The sky falling?

Are these things making you excellent or stealing your joy?

Admittedly, I have let myself go down the rabbit hole of following the news every day and spending too much time on social media.

It reminds me of when my wife and I watched the Netflix series Ozark.  As horrifying as some of those episodes were, we couldn't stop watching.  I remember how I would have nightmares and crappy sleep on the nights I would watch it.

Now it seems like what's going on in our country is much like Ozark.  We know we shouldn't be consuming all the negativity but we just can't help ourselves - much like sugar and junk food.

Last Monday it reached a boiling point. I found myself super anxious and my body was reacting accordingly.  My mind was consuming too much junk and it was starting to affect my body.  It's a fact that stress and anxiety puts your body into a "Startle Reflex'.  Your body shuts things down to protect itself.  For me, it resulted in ZERO energy and a lingering headache.

For others it could be sore joints, weight gain and excessive muscle tension.

Enough is enough.

It became time to draw a line in the sand.

Ironically, the same day a friend of mine was starting a 21 Day Fasting accountability group.

The idea being to deprive the flesh of something in order to strengthen the spirit and the mind.  

It can be a fast from anything.  I decided to fast from the news and social media (except for business posts) for 21 days and use that time to read and listen to things that make me smarter, kinder, and better in ALL areas of my life.

I know this will be a good thing and will get me back on track because I will get back to thinking on the right things - things I can actually control.
