Take Your Promise Land
In Numbers 25-31 we see fear preventing God's chosen people from entering the promised land.
Here's the story...
After exploring the land for forty days, the men returned to Moses, Aaron, and the whole community of Israel at Kadesh in the wilderness of Paran. They reported to the whole community what they had seen and showed them the fruit they had taken from the land. This was their report to Moses: "We entered the land you sent us to explore, and it is indeed a bountiful country—a land flowing with milk and honey. Here is the kind of fruit it produces. But the people living there are powerful, and their towns are large and fortified. We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak! The Amalekites live in the Negev, and the Hittites, Jebusites, and Amorites live in the hill country. The Canaanites live along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea and along the Jordan Valley."
But Caleb tried to quiet the people as they stood before Moses. "Let’s go at once to take the land," he said. "We can certainly conquer it!"
But the other men who had explored the land with him disagreed. "We can’t go up against them! They are stronger than we are!" So they spread this bad report about the land among the Israelites: "The land we traveled through and explored will devour anyone who goes to live there. All the people we saw were huge. We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak. Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that’s what they thought, too!"
This story reminds me of how people live their lives and talk themselves out of success. We shake our heads and accuse the majority of the scouts of being "wussies."
However, this story is a parallel to how most people live their lives.
A few are like Caleb. They see something they want to achieve and go after it with confidence that they can get it. So they take action.
Unfortunately most people let fear stop them from reaching their potential.
What is your "promised land?" Is it being in good shape and being able to play with your kids or grandkids rather than laying on the couch?
What fears are holding you back?
Fear of failure?
Fear of getting hurt?
Fear of having to give up "comfort foods" or happy hour?
Sure you can stay in a place of fear but...
Do you feel and look your best? Is it worth the freedom of success?
Too often we settle for the "sucky" known instead of really going for a better life.
In the story of the Israelites, God was so pissed off he had them wander another 40 years in the desert until they died. They never saw the promised land.
Do you want to wander in the "wilderness" for the next 40 years being out of shape?
You deserve to live in your promised land.
Fitting into those clothes you can't wear anymore?
Being able to walk up stairs without losing your breath?
Putting on that swimsuit and feeling good about how you look?
It's yours for the taking.

Dedicated to bringing out your "inner Caleb."
