Proverbs 23:7 says "As a man thinketh so is he."

Truly what we think becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Henry Ford, the founder of Ford motors said  "Whether you believe you can do a thing or not, you are right."

We use too many I CAN'T statements.  In most cases these really mean I WON'T.

In reality we disqualify ourselves with excuses that accomplish NOTHING!

As I have said in previous emails, WORDS HAVE POWER.

Let's turn those I CAN'T statements into I CANS!

One great story that illustrates this well is my top personal training story of all time.

Susan Peters was in a wheelchair after being hit in a head on crash that severely damaged her brain.

When I met her she was slumped over and could barely talk. 

Everyone around her said "you can't take of yourself" and "you will need aides the rest of your life."

Even though those people said "can't"...she had a different plan.  She said "I WILL walk again. I WILL regain my independence. In fact, I WILL walk a 5K."

And in 2005 she did just that!  She walked that 5K!  KARE 11 was there to capture the moment and you can watch it by clicking here.  Scroll down for the original story... The ten years later story appears first.

Our Bod Squad Nutrition Coaching group was recently challenged to identify their I CAN'Ts and turn them into I CANs.  This was powerful because their language went from powerless to powerful.  

Here are a few examples of what they wrote:

  • "I can't plan my time.  I don't take time to plan. I will plan the next week every Friday morning."
  • "I can't eat like this (on the new plan).  I don't take time to meal prep. I will make a regular grocery list and meal prep each week."
  • "I can't keep up with housework. I don't recognize time available each day. I will break up tasks and do some throughout the week."
  • "I can’t do three 30 minute workouts. I’m too busy and tired. I will do three thirty minute workouts by planning, re-planning if I miss one and doing them."

Are you tired of saying I CAN'T?
