"And endurance produces character, and character produces hope"  Romans 5:4 I just got back from my annual turkey hunting trip with my dad to the Black Hills - perfect timing to resend this oldie but goodie to you guys.
I love hunting because it requires patience and endurance...and definitely builds character. You learn to keep going with the hope that you will be successful even when dealt lousy conditions or setbacks.

Turkey hunting isn't as easy as people might think since you see them all over the place.  You have to wear a lot of camouflage and be really still since wild turkeys have great eyesight. With turkey hunting, success is in the planning. Many times the plan doesn't work out and you have to adjust.

There have been many times I've been turkey hunting and had a great opportunity to get one but my plans fell apart. The turkeys we were stalking did something unexpected, I missed the shot or the turkey saw me.  But I always kept up my endurance, experienced growth in my character and forever had hope. A lot of my turkey hunts involved crawling on my stomach through the woods or chasing them through the rain. Yes it can be very frustrating at times, but also very rewarding since it is such a challenge. When you get one, it makes it that much sweeter.
That is why turkey hunting reminds me of chasing a tough goal. Sometimes you can lay out the best plans and things don't always go the way you intended. Sometimes the process can be frustrating and you want to quit.  But there is nothing like hitting a big goal, especially one you had to 'endure' for. There is something special about the ones that cost blood, sweat and tears.
A few years ago when I was hunting, I missed an easy shot and was beating myself up over it.  I had plenty of time to line it up and thought it was a sure thing but somehow I screwed it up.
For a moment I started to get down on myself. "How could I have missed such an easy shot?" An hour later I found some other turkeys and was able to make a difficult shot, hitting one on the run and dropping him. Not an easy feat. So I missed the easy one and hit the hard shot. Go figure!   That is why I love turkey hunting.  When one opportunity does not work out there is usually another one right behind it.  You just can't quit and let one failed attempt define the whole hunt.

, have your best intentions and plans for getting in shape fallen short?  Are you frustrated with yourself and lack of progress? Much like turkey hunting, there is still hope to 'bag the goals.'  Let me be your guide so you endure and hit your goals head on much like I did on my second chance.
