This is More Important Than Training
At the end of last week I felt like an old man. My joints ached, my energy was low, and I was mentally foggy.
When I went mountain biking my legs felt like they were full of cement.
I turned to Matthew 11:28, one of my favorite passages, for guidance: "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
I did exactly what it says. On Friday, I went up to my cabin for the fishing opener.
The cabin always gives me rest. I truly feel as if I'm in God's country when I'm there. And sure enough, I slept like a rock both nights. In addition to that, the fishing was awesome! It relaxes me and calms my mind.
On Sunday I headed back home and stopped to mountain bike at a nearby trail complex.
The difference in my energy and stamina was staggering.
My joints didn't hurt and I biked like I was on rocket fuel.
It was the wake up call I needed. I hadn't been resting enough and it had been affecting my well-being in all areas of my life.
It doesn't matter how hard you train or how you live your life. What matters most is how well you recover and rest.
Your body and mind actually adapts and grows stronger to the stresses during rest.
One of the big reasons you fail to make progress and could even go backwards in life is simply because you're not paying attention to recovery.
A SOLID training plan takes into account recovery as well as training.
Have you been working your butt off and feeling weary and heavy laden?
Are you not seeing the results you want from your program despite your BEST efforts?
Come to me and I will give you rest.
- Rest from the frustration of working hard with little or no return on investment.
- Rest from racking your brain trying to figure out the "perfect" routine for you.
- Rest from doing exercises that don't feel good but you do them just because you think they are required for great results
I know you are working HARD.
I can teach you to work SMART.
Cast your burdens on me and let me figure it out for you. This is what I have done for over 27 years as a personal trainer.
