It's Not How You Start- It's How You Finish!

"Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win." 1 Corinthians 9:24


I remember watching my wife run the Twin Cities Marathon. 


She trained hard for the race.


I had never seen her so dedicated to accomplishing a goal.


On race day she struggled. Her body was "off" and it was a tough race for her.


I still remember watching her come down the final hill to the State Capitol as she approached the finish line.


Even though the race was tough, she mustered up a burst of energy to sprint through the finish line. 


I was proud of her for doing that race but even more proud at the way she finished it.


Life can be like a race. As much as you prepare and do the "right things" it can still be a struggle.


2022 might have felt like a long brutal marathon at times. 


Maybe you didn't start out well or maybe you went into a funk or faced a major setback. 


Whatever the case, it is not about what did or did not happen or the fact you started strong and lost momentum along the way.


IT'S NOT HOW YOU START IT'S HOW YOU FINISH!


Just like my wife, I want to see you "sprint" through the finish line of 2022.


A great way to "Sprint" through the finish line is to join us for the annual "FITMAS TREE CHALLENGE" workout this Saturday at 9am.


This challenge has two purposes.


#1- Raise money for a great charity OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD


#2- Give you a WIN at the end of the year.


This is not just a hard workout. It is a symbol that you are still in this "fight" called life.


It can and will be modified for injuries and ALL fitness levels.


The important thing is you show up and do your BEST. That's all we can ask.


I guarantee you feel like a champion afterwards.


Any setbacks, disappointments and regrets will disappear into the past where they belong.

I'm coming off the flu and pneumonia but still realize it is important to finish strong even if I have to slow it down and pace myself.

It’s hard to believe it’s been almost a year since my dad passed away. When he was alive, his pride and joy was our cabin up north. For years, he handled everything—I just showed up, enjoyed it, and made sure things stayed clean. About a year before he passed, he handed it over to me. Suddenly, I was responsible for the bills, the maintenance, and everything that came with it. One of the biggest jobs every year is getting the dock in before fishing opener. My dad always hired someone to do it because it was hard work and honestly pretty technical. This year, I decided to tackle it myself—even though I hadn’t done it in years. I knew one thing immediately: I couldn’t do it alone. So I called a couple of friends who are far more mechanically inclined than I am. Thank goodness I did, because from the very start, things didn’t go smoothly. The old 1978 pump we use to move sand under the dock posts refused to cooperate. We had to troubleshoot, adapt, and figure it out together. Then came leveling the posts. One guy on the dock guiding, two of us in the water adjusting. Constant communication. Constant feedback. Step by step. It wasn’t easy—but we got it done. And now we know what works, what doesn’t, and how the process will go smoother next time. That entire experience reminded me a lot of what people go through when trying to improve their health, fitness, and overall wellness. At Puravida Fitness Lakeville , we see it every day. How to start: Start with 1 minute total per day Progress toward 5 minutes 3. Jefferson Curl This movement helps your spine become stronger and more resilient by teaching it to move safely under load. A strong, adaptable spine is key for long-term fitness and weight loss success , especially if you’re lifting weights or staying active. Tip: Start light and focus on control—this is about quality, not heavy weight. 4. 90/90 Hip Rotation Limited hip mobility is one of the biggest causes of knee and low back pain. Most people lack internal hip rotation, which affects everything from walking to squatting. How to start: Perform for 30 seconds to 2 minutes daily 5. Thoracic Rotations (Thread the Needle) If your upper back is stiff, your shoulders and lower back will pay the price. This movement improves thoracic mobility and helps correct that hunched posture many people develop. This year, my wife Kymn and I celebrated 20 years of marriage. I often reflect on Proverbs 18:22: “He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord.” That couldn’t be more true in my life. Kymn has supported me through countless ups and downs, and one of the things I cherish most is how she prays for me every night before we go to bed—it brings me a deep sense of peace and comfort.
